I can try and help, but I'm far from the best writer.

I've done plenty of articles on airplanes here and would love to do more. I'd like to do one about air racing actually if I get a chance.

Sounds like it's going to likely be "official" but to be honest, it could be a potential side gig for someone out there (you, F86, ttyymmnn, Dukie, fodder (if he'd come back), who knows?). There is some immense talent, knowledge and writing skills here. Time will tell, but there are a few folks here who could meet the qualifications. Let's see what happens. (Look at Geist, and Ballaban... And others).

Dukie served as ground crew for the A-10s for years. That man has some stories as well. But yes. F86 is a monster with plane knowledge. Actually, as is CorvairSomeday. We have talent and skills here. Natively. But I have to wonder about "dream big"... That's saying something there.

Me! Me! I'm totally qualified! My first job was washing 727s and DC-9s! That may have been well over a decade ago, and I haven't been near a plane unless I was flying since, but yeah...totally qualified...

I could spend hours writing what it's like to crawl up inside the landing gear of a plane with a garden sprayer full of chemicals that eat your skin off....or you know all those shiny parts of the planes? Well somebody has to polish those...I could tell you all about that!

There are some great aviation writers out there. Not sure how many have Jalopnik style humor. Hell, I don't have Jalopnik style humor. Not sure how important that will be. I would love to see more from Shul, Yeager, any astronauts, designers and industry folks. Alton Brown is an avid pilot.

I can think of a few fun things to write about. Maybe some explanations of the bits and pieces on the planes. What are the slats, how do thrust reverses really work? What is all that crap made of. Aviation history is easy and full of goodness. Museums. I love me an aviation/space museum. ADabOfOppo volunteers at the Air Force Museum. If he could get me a tour I sure as heck would write about it! Of course, there are the tie ins with cars. I have friends in Indycar and all the stuff they use is basically the same as what we use. Could be a fun discussion.
